Hi everyone.

I am new here. I stumbled across this site and thought it was a very neat place. I live in NYC and read a whole lot of books. I like fiction, but I tend to read more non-fiction. Although I'm trying to change that because the fiction I have managed to read, I've enjoyed.

Look forward to chatting with you guys.

Liz

Welcome, Liz.
We are a bit smaller anbd quieter right now than we have been at times, but I hope you will find discussions you will enjoy and books that you will be tempted by.  Only today I was reflecting on the fact that I have bought and read books based on what people here have talked about. I'm mainly into fiction, and I am always keen to widen my scope there.

Hello Liz, and welcome.

Please do feel free to have a look round, start new threads, or, if you prefer, resurrect some old ones. It's good to see you here.

Cheers, Himadri

Hello Liz and a big welcome from me as well.  wave

I am more of a non fiction fan and its only relatively recently that I have taken to fiction more.  What subjects do you prefer to read about? I love history, and am in my element when I find a book which offers a different perspective on a well known period of history.  Although having said that they are becoming few and far between now when it comes to my favourite era - the First & Second world war.

Hello Liz - great to see you - and you've joined just as one member has been wondering why there aren't more North Americans on the board!

The non-fiction threads are always in need of more input, so don't feel you have to read or comment on fiction - I know people have been a bit disappointed in the past that there is not more lively discussion of non-fiction, so do post about your non-fiction reads, and hopefully we'll respond!

As others have said, it's quite quiet here these days, but still rumbling along, so it really is good to have a new member.

Thanks for the warm welcomes.

I will check out the non-fiction form, although for 2013 I am planning to read 2/3 fiction 1/3 non-fiction. This year it seems to be reversed.

@Apple - My non-fiction topics vary.  I usually read books on Health & Wellness, Metaphysics, Science, Writing, Reading and Biographies/Memoirs.  I can hear all the yawns now!!  Very Happy

Also I'm glad I can leand my North American flavor to the group.  I find this so odd though. This is the 2nd book group that I belong to that is not based in America.  I'm asuming you guys are UK based (correct me if I am wrong). The other group is UK based.  Seems like people in the States don't read.

Melonie was from the United States wasn't she? One of the many who doesn't seem to post any more!  Sad

Oh they do, I get a lot of my fiction referals from the US, my cousin who shares my love of science fiction, fantasy and the paranormal, has recommended books to me before, a lot are not even known over here, and others only become popular here when they are made into a TV series/film in the States.

This is a UK based group it originated on the BBC website when the BBC did a Big Read thing a few years ago, when that all ended the message board was closed down and Evie set up a board on MSN so we could all stay together, we were evicted from there when MSN packed that side of things up and Evie came to the rescue again and set up this site.
