I just discovered that Maupassant's 'Bel-Ami' is being filmed in UK at the moment.  Directed by Declan Donnellen and starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Chritina Ricci.

Other adaptions being filmed or completed.

'Coriolanus' (Ralph Fiennes, Vanessa Redgrave, Gerard Butler)

George Moore's short story 'The Life of Albert Nobbs' about a woman who lives as a man.  With Glenn Close.

Boris Akunin's Russisan thriller ''The Winter Queen'

Rosemary Sutcliffe's 'The Eagle of the Ninth'

Kazuo Ishuguro's 'Never Let Me Go' (Carey Mulligan & Kiera Knightly)

'Jane Eyre' with Mia Wasilowska (recently Alice in Burton's Alice), Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell (playing what?), Judi Dench.

Lionel Shriver's 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' with Tilda Swinton.

Other interesting-sounding Brit films include a film about the Freud/Jung relationship directed by David Cronenberg with Michael Fassbender.

Aardman Animation's 'Arthur Christmas' about how Santa manages to ge round to every child in one night.

I found this book sadly disappointing - let's hope they can iron out the bits that don't quite add up or are silly.   Rolling Eyes Oh, what a daft thing to say - action/thriller films don't usually care about either of those things... just bring on the big car crash! Yay!!!

The beautiful Keira is probably going to be very good at playing an affectless voice.  Wink  Carey Mulligan, though, much too a(cute).

Oh, dear. Not filmable. Please. All the fascinating and awful and and morally complex stuff in this book works is because it is a book, something that largely takes place in the reader's head, not a - frankly crude - visual medium which will have to show things it is hard to contemplate, or make immediately clear things that are questionable. And what about our extremely unreliable narrator?

Tilda Swinton, though, I can see might make a plausible mother of Kevin. I wonder if that was because Meryll was already booked up?

There was a radio adapation of We Need to Talk About Kevin a while back. I only caught the last episode, which rather spoils the rest of it! But it seemed to work quite well.

The Adjustment Bureau, based on a Philip K Dick story, is in post-production and due for release this year. Stars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.

This looks intriguing. Seems like perfect casting.

I guess he may be playing St John Rivers. But I wonder if there can be anyone anywhere in the world who can get excited about yet another Jane Eyre.

But because it's a one-way epistolary novel, the single voice reading will work very well. But a film? You can't really film a story through one person's eyes, can you? Because as the viewer you are always outside the scene, looking at everyone. Perhap someone better schooled in film will put me right?
