I got a number of vouchers for Amazon and Waterstones, and my daughter bought me a book by Hilary Mantel - The assassination of Margaret Thatcher, I haven't had chance to look at it yet, but the title made me smile!

I didn't go too mad on books this year, having plenty still to finish from last year's haul, but I did get the following:-

Patient - Ben Watt
I've been meaning to read this for years. Ben Watt is one half of pop duo Everything but the Girl. This book is his account of living with the rare and dangerous condition Churg-Strauss Syndrome. By coincidence, a friend of mine has just been diagnosed with the condition.

I Robot and The Foundation Trilogy - Isaac Asimov
Been meaning to read Asimov for years. This year I will finally get round to his best-known works.

The Man on the Balcony and The Laughing Policeman - Sjowall & Wahloo
Books 3 and 4 in the ground-breaking Martin Beck crime series from the 60s & 70s. I really enjoyed the first two, which I read last year. This is the series that first inspired Henning Mankell to write the Wallander books, and there's a good case to be made that Sjowall & Wahloo pioneered the entire Scandi-crime genre.
