What has happened to....??

I have to ask does anyone know what has happened to John Q? he wasn't a prolific poster of comments but I enjoyed reading his interesting and informative reviews on historical books and he doesn't seem to have posted for a very long while?
Apple

So, obviously not!! Just me who has missed him then!!
Caro

Hello Apple,

I think he got a little offside with some comments he made once, so perhaps that had something to do with his absence.  I don't know though.
Apple

Oh I see, thanks anyway Caro
Evie

He was unbelievably rude to individual posters, and was asked to refrain from making personal comments and stick to discussing books.  I don't think he's posted since then, but he is still on the membership list, so maybe he lurks and will see that you have missed him, Apple.  I agree, he made some interesting posts about books and literature - but personal insults in response to other posters' interesting comments about books is not called for.

Oh I see, thanks for that Evie actually now I come to think of it I remember him having a few words with Himadri  on a thread once but I don't think that can be the time you mean as I don't recall him ever being "unbelievably rude" to anyone, I always thought he was a straight up guy with interesting comments/posts anyway its a shame, I liked his posts, hope he does lurk and reads this!

Also while I am on the subject, Himadri doesn't seem to have been around for a while either does anyone know whats happened to him?
Ann

What has happened to everyone? I've logged on lots of times and nobody is around Sad

I'm here occasionally. Actually I haven't had the energy to post, most of the time I'm too tired to think!

Does anyone know what happened to  Bookfreak who lived on Malta?  He was coming on a visit to Chichester a few years ago and was asking my advice on what to see at the theatre.  Then he seemed to stop posting.

I haven't posted much recently as the last book I read, about a Victorian feminist, was very academic and I think I'm suffering from the mental equivalent of muscle strain.  However, today arrived from Amazon  Lynne Truss's "Tennyson's Gift" and C.J. Sansom's "Heartstone." I hope at least one of those will soothe me back into reading.

Like others, I have had some family difficulties recently which have eaten into my spare (therefore reading) time.  I have only just started being able to find the time for reading again, despite taking some leave to coincide with the Easter holidays.

There seem to be a few of us going through difficult times at present.   I do hope things will improve for those who are in difficult situations.
Evie

I log on every day, but am another who is not going through the best time, and finding energy to write thoughtful posts often eludes me...but I have been conscious of how quiet it is.  I don't mind that as much as some do, but I don't want us to fade away!

Sandra, I wondered what happened to Bookfreak too (though had always thought he was a she!).  We have had some new people join, but not much new posting - if newbies are reading this, do jump in!
Caro

I always thought bookfreak was a she, too!

The problem with these quiet spells (and they do pass) is that for someone like me who is around and not having particular difficulties is that there aren't discussions to bounce one's ideas or reading off much.  I can write about what I am reading, but it takes me a while to read a book, so that isn't enough.

But people will be back - they always are.  Would be good to see new people contributing but some like to lurk a while before taking the plunge.  (Unlike me, who immediately thinks my thoughts are worth others knowing!)

Cheers, Caro.

I'm so sorry, county lady. I hope you are not unwell. I am as guilty as anyone else of coming here to lurk rather than post but I generally feel what I read is not anything very interesting. I do post if something has struck me or if it is for my reading group - really hoping someone might give me an insight into the volume so that I have something to say!  Embarassed

I always look for your posts Apple - I'm looking forward to the new Charlaine Harris and I think you and I are the only people here who enjoy her books

Thank you Ann thats nice to know! I think we probably are the only ones who like those books, but never mind its good to be different! Wink but yes my copy is pre ordered ready for its release in May.

Although I have to say, the books she has weritten since the release of the Trueblood TV series have almost seemed to me like they are written with the series in mind and how they will translate to the TV (although the series doesn't generally stick to the plot) she has said book thirteen will be the last and I just hope it doesn't go out with a wimper like her Harper Connelly stories, they were so good but it was almost as if in the last book she had totally lost interest in the character and just wanted to tie up the loose ends quickly and be done with it.
