Vasily Grossman, Life and Fate, Radio 4 (September 2011)

I know a couple of people on the board have read Grossman's Life and Fate fairly recently, so thought I'd post this link, in case people haven't seen it:

It will be split up, but I  wonder if it will be repeated in longer chunks.  15 minutes at a time is a bit frustrating, and some of the slots are only that - but it's an interesting thing to do, to give over the whole drama output for a week to one piece.  And of course there is the fabulous iPlayer for listening again, or linking all the episodes together!

Radio has so much good drama these days, including repeats of all sorts on R4 Extra (very sad about the changes to what waas Radio 7, but still lots of good stuff there).  They are currently repeating the very excellent George Smiley adaptations, with Simon Russell Beale as Smiley.

Oh - thanks for that! It'll have to be the i-player for me, I think.

Wonderful book. (As I may have said elsewhere... Very Happy ) When you consider this alongside The Master and Margarita, Soul, Doctor Zhivago and The First Circle, you realise that the greatness of the Russian novel didn't stop with the Revolution, and that not even totalitarianism could extinguish the flame.

A reminder that the Radio 4 dramatisation of Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate starts this Sunday, 18th September:

Sunday afternoons are no good for me, as I have to work, so I am grateful, as ever, for iPlayer, and will definitely catch up with this.  Shame it has David Tennant in it, but we can't have everything!

He can't do his poppy-eyed thing on radio, though, can he?
I quite like him.  Smile
