The Photographers Eye by Michael Freeman

I am reading this book at the moment, I am a keen amateur photographer and this was one of the books on the subject my husband bought me (after me dropping monumental hints!) for christmas.

I am actually quite surprised as a lot of the stuff in there seems to be what I already do.
MikeAlx

I learnt most of my photographic skills, such as they are, from a Michael Freeman book (albeit about 20 years ago, and very pre-digital!).

Photography has always interested me I love taking photo's - mainly landscapes and buildings (they don't move or have to be bribed to co-operate Wink ) I'm into night photography at the moment and taking photos during the blue hour, with varying degrees of sucess, what do you like to photograph Mike?
MikeAlx

I don't have time for much more than family/holiday snaps these days, but I used to like doing similar stuff to you - buildings and landscapes mainly.
Marita

Iíve never read a book on photography but do like to take pictures. Mainly landscapes and buildings while on holiday and the plants and flowers in my garden all year round.
Thereís too much on my TBR-list to add another book at the moment. Something to put on my ĎRemember For the Futureí-list.

I've finished it now and as I said a lot of what was in there was what I was already doing anyway, but even though I didn't actually learn anything new it was kind of comforting in a way to know that for once in my life I was doing something right, even though I didn't realise it!!

Oh yes! I love taking photographs of flowers, close ups of the petals in particular as they can be so beautiful, I always have some sort of camera on me wherever I go just in case!

My camera is not good enough to take such detailed pictures, but my avatar is from one of my photographs.

When you said you took photographs of flowers I guessed your avatar was one of your pics! Its lovely, I tell you what though, I only have a little compact camera - nothing special, but I think they are better than people give them credit for.

For example this was taken with a bog standard point and shoot compact camera.
Marita

Basic cameras have come a long way.
I love your picture of the daffodils, like the angle of the photograph. Quite a few of my flower pictures are on Facebook. Have a look if you feel like it.

I will do, is Marita your real name?
Marita

Marita is my real name. Full name Marita Peelman.

Great! I'll look you up then!

I loved the pic of the orange flower on your facebook page, in your profile pics but that was the only one I was able to see, but that was lovely!
Marita

Thanks, but it didn't work, I'm thinking its probably because we are not "friends" on there, so your privacy settings are blocking me from seeing them but not to worry!
Marita

Sorry about that, Apple. I thought it might work as a link to another album worked for people who arenít facebook friends either. Perhaps it worked for them because I mailed the link to them. Glad you liked the picture you could see Ė the orange Lilly.
Castorboy

The link worked for me even though I am not a friend!. I must say they are lovely pictures confirmed by my wife, a keen gardener, who was enchanted by them.

Casterboy, Iím so pleased you and your wife liked the pictures. My privacy setting on them is Ďfriends of friendsí and when I was logged of from facebook I couldnít get to them either.
