The dreaded lurgy....

Boy, this virus is a tough one!   I felt fine up until about 9pm last night and then by 10 felt like I was gonna die!   Laughing

So to anyone else who is suffering at the moment, you would have my deepest sympathy.....if I had enough energy!
Evie

I'm sorry you are ill, Miranda!  I had it about 3 weeks ago, and it was very nasty - and like with you, it came on pretty quickly.  I am still coughing and wheezing, and that shows little sign of abating.  I hope you feel better soon!  Stay in bed and drink lots of hot whisky!
miranda

Thanks Evie!  I thought you'd had it.  I remembered you saying.   At the moment I am drinking my expensive brandy.....which is a bit of a waste really as I can barely taste it!     Laughing

At the moment it feels like a very bad cold rather than flu as I am able to function but I just hope it doesn't last too long.   It does come on amazingly quickly doesn't it?

Hope you feel better soon!

You have my sympathies - we seem to have been on a family lurgy relay race for the past month or two. I even had to abandon the cheeseboard on Christmas Day to dose up - then promptly fell asleep on the sofa in front of Doctor Who.
Caro

This is what happens when you have Christmas in the middle of winter.  sensible people, like NZers, have it in the middle of summer when you can be relatively sure of being free of flu - though not necessarily of food-poisoning from allowing the turkey to get salmonella.

Cheers, Caro.

We have so far (touch wood) escaped this, although we did get the norovirus - which is also doing the rounds here - in October and were very sorry for ourselves.

Falling asleep in front of Dr Who might have nothing to do with being ill, Mike...David Morrissey kept me watching, but nothing else about the programme did! Wink

I am fine - don't feel unwell, just still have catarrh and a chesty cough which is really annoying, but no worse than that.  My throat keeps threatening to get sore again, but it never develops into anything much.
Klara Z

My sympathies! My husband has now been in bed for two weeks with severe flu----he was unable to eat Christmas dinner and has missed out on everything---and to make matters worse, yesterday was a 'significant' birthday for him. He just managed to open his cards before zonking out again---what a nightmare!
miranda

Oh bless him!  Give him my sympathy!   I think I've just got a bad cold as I'm up and about.   Proper flu is horrible and to have it for 2 weeks!   Shocked
miranda

And I dread getting the norovirus.  Flu I can cope with and know what to do but the vomiting bug...... Shocked   I've always hated vomiting, ever since I was a kid.  I hate the feel of it. And the taste!
MikeAlx

What a nightmare, Klara! Other than a few days in bed, we haven't had it too bad - just sinusy headaches and irritating tickly chesty-coughs mostly, along with the lack of sleep as a consequence.

How awful to miss the whole of Christmas and major birthday! We missed the millennium entirely, due to dreadful flu from Christmas through to New Year, so have some idea of what a let-down that is, after all the anticipation.

The lurgy has hit!  Sad  I feel like I have been hit by a bus and I'm doing a seriously good impression of Rudolf the red nosed reindeer, who has just discovered he has Niagara falls coming out of his nose, I have had colds before but this one is a seriously good one (but not good in that way, if you know what I mean!)
miranda

It's horrible, isn't it?!  You have my sympathy, Apple!
Apple

Yes it is and it came on so quick one minute I was fine the next I felt a tickle in my nose, started sneezing and then that was it! Am starting to feel a bit better now though thankfully I still feel like I've been hit by a bus though!
miranda

Mine came on that quick too.  Took under a hour from perfectly fine to wishing I could die.....

Yes, arrives very quickly and then is reluctant to leave!  I am still coughing, and it's been nearly a month.
MikeAlx

Poor George has been fighting tonsilitis and a high temperature (up to 40, or 104 in old money) for the past 4 days, and now has an upset stomach to add to the misery - and this is the third bout of its kind in a month. Claire & I got approx 3 hours sleep last night. Hopefully we'll all be well enough to make Claire's nan's funeral on Friday. All in all it hasn't been the best Christmas...  Sad
Ann

Mike I am so sorry. The amount of illness around is depressing. You can't explain it to a small child either. How horrible for Claire to lose her nan at this time of year too.
miranda

I'm sorry too, Mike.  Has your boy been checked by the doctor?

I woke up this morning with another bout of the lurgy!  The cough is horrendous, everytime I move I cough like my lungs are trying to escape!
Apple

I'm sorry too Mike and I hope everything goes ok with the funeral on Friday - and hows the little one, any better? Its horrible when they are young as they don't know really whats going on and that it will pass eventually.
Apple

Sad We have a new lurgy in our house now!........ puke & pottytrain5

(I'm sorry I know its crude but it does say exactly what I want to say!)

Daughter came down with it on Monday, and we have all followed one by one, it was my turn yesterday and son is the last one with it today.
Evie

Thanks for the 'graphic' description, Apple!   Shocked

Poor you - do hope you are all feeling better soon...sounds very nasty.
Apple

I aim to please plus it gives me an excuse to use the vomiting emoticon!   Very Happy
Evie

The chance to use the toilet one is equally welcome - well done!  Not sure it's worth actually having the bug for...though I suppose given that you are suffering anyway, you might as well make the most of it!
lunababymoonchild

Oh, I shared that particular bug on October 31 (I'm sure that you can see why I remebered the date) and had all three of us out for the count for at least 7 days.  By 9pm that night I was begging for death!

I didn't get too much reading done, either Evil or Very Mad
