What an incredibly good idea.

A very merry and happy Christmas and an extremely peaceful (and very bookish) New Year to everybody.

A very Happy Christmas from me too. I wish you all a peaceful sliver of time where you can retreat, briefly, with a book

I'm a bit of a Christmas Humbug, but nonetheless hope you all have a great holiday season and send all very best wishes for peace, health and happiness to you and all your families in the coming year.

Happy Christmas all.   Smile

I hope you all have an enjoyable time and receive at least some of the books on your Christmas list.
chris-l

Yes, Merry Christmas, everyone! I'm afraid I rather belong to the 'Bah, Humbug' school of thought about Christmas (something to do with cooking for 12 on Christmas Day, followed by another 7 on Boxing Day, perhaps!), but I do genuinely hope all around me, all board members included, will have a wonderful time.
Castorboy

It’s late afternoon on Christmas Eve – the turkey and pork are defrosting, the mince pies are made, there’s the spuds to peel and stuffing and forcemeat to make. All in preparation for 11 adults & 5 grandchildren to sit down to a traditional Christmas dinner in a forecast cool temperature.
But there is still time to send a big thank you to the creators, administrators and contributors for making this such a very addictive Board and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

And for the New Year may all our posts be winning ones.
Caro

He's almost as beautiful as you were, Mike.  Though I daresay you were much better behaved and never stole the choccies or Christmas balls.

Christmas is nearly upon us here.  My kids are all away so we are just having Xmas Day on our own twosome - though with a 4.5 turkey and a small(ish) ham.  May be a little full by the end of the day.  My husband says he intends to spend the day gardening, so I should be allowed to spend it on the computer.  But perhaps not, so have a lovely Christmas, all of you.

Cheers, Caro.  xx
iwishiwas

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you all have a good day however you are spending it.
Not_Smart_Just_Lucky

...and to all, a good night
Evie

It's Christmas morning!  (Here in the UK, at least...)

I am still in bed, with huge cup of coffee, box of chocs, reading and listening to my Christmas compilation of Bing Crosby, Elvis and the Rat Pack singing Christmas songs.  Bliss!  We are having lunch after the Queen's speech today, so I don't have to rush and get the turkey in the oven.  (We will, of course, eat before then!  But smoked salmon doesn't take quite so much preparation...)

Hope you all have/are having/had (delete as appropriate) a lovely day.   Very Happy

(We need more smileys...the ones they provide are a bit tame!)
Rebecca

Evie, that sounds so wonderfully civilised.

Merry Christmas to you all

Marita

It’s early evening on Boxing Day, a bit late to wish you all a Merry Christmas, so I hope you have a festive end to the year and I wish you all the best for the New Year.

I rather like this one:  Mr. Green It's slightly maniacal.
miranda

You can get more, another forum I use has loads found by the admin.  I shall have to ask him where he gets them from!
Evie

miranda

You found them then?

My friend said this:

Quote:
It may depend on who hosts the forums. On myfastforum.org, who host this forum, you go to the Smiley section on the admin panel and add smileys from there. There are quite a lot of smiley packs and you can pick them from any one you want.
Evie

Well, I found some, but can't work out how to import them!  I could put that one into a message, using HTML code, but couldn't add it to the collection we already have.

I will look for packs, though, and see if I can import some more that way.  I don't personally find the ones they provide particularly expressive!  The ones the Beeb use on their messageboards are better.
Apple

Well here we are again the silly season almost upon us again, another year has passed and some of us will have had better years than others.

I just hope that everyone on the board has a Very Happy & Peaceful Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year

All the best to you all for Christmas and 2012

Strange. I've been shut out of Big Readers all day. Tried to post several times but it wasn't having any of it. Now it's late and I'm tired and forgot what I wanted to say.

Anyway, merry Christmas to all and keep up the good work. I like this forum and appreciate all the book talk.

Have a lovely Christmas, all of you.

Warm greetings from western Canada, where we are most definitely enjoying a white Christmas. To which I should add I am very much enjoying Parrot and Olivier in America, by Peter Carey. He is some kind of magician with words, that fellow.

Also anticipating new books under the tree tomorrow morning. What else would they get me? blob5

And Happy Christmas to everyone from me...  I, too, have not found the time to read much, recently (let alone to post on the boards).

And we're just home from seeing in the New Year with a quite spectacular fireworks display for a tiny town.  Happy New Year, happy reading to you all.

It is much too wet here for successful fireworks, but I am happy to be safe and warm indoors, with good food, good wine and plenty of good books.

Happy New Year, Caro, and all the rest of the Big Readers!

director Happy New Year to everyone from a mild, spring-like day in Auckland.

Noticed over Christmas that the number of cards arriving by snailmail has dropped off markedly. Maybe it is the influence of e-cards, Facebook, Twitter, as well as the convenience of Skype. As a family though we still exchange traditional cards.

Caro

Mine too, Joe.  Merry Christmas to you all from me as well.

For the first time in many years Santa is coming to our house, and Toby's dad has suggested whisky would be the thing. So there is whisky and a glass, a mince pie, a piece of the end of our cheese fondue that we had for dinner tonight, and a carrot for the reindeer. When we were in the supermarket Toby amused the staff by suggesting we leave out milk for Santa to give him a choice. So there is also a glass of milk on the table.
Jen M

Mine too.  Although it is often very quiet,  it's a nice little community.  Happy Christmas Eve!

Ditto this year to all - snailmail continues a decline.
We had the best Christmas dinner yet with everything going without a hitch. Although there was 13 of us, we are not superstitious (probably that idea is fading in today's realism!). Traditional fare with turkey and trimmings followed by pavlova, cheesecake and fruit salad. No room for cake.
Castorboy

occasion1  occasion5 Once again Happy New Year to everyone. 2016 is shaping up to be special with the Queen's 90th birthday in April. Our prime minister has the nerve to schedule a referendum in March for changing the flag design. It's bound to happen sometime but I can't imagine it will be in the coming year.
Joe McWilliams

Best to all in 2016. Please keep the book reports and recommendations coming.  Very Happy

Now both my daughter and my son are away at University, it was lovely to have them both home for Christmas, along with my daughter's fiancé.  It has been crowded but good to have them all here.
