Barbara Ewing

Has anyone read any novels by Barbara Ewing?

I'll be honest: I know of her because she played the barmaid Zena in the Hammer horror classic Dracula Has Risen From the Grave - and very good she was too. But this is what she says on her website:

Quote:
Although I have done very much stage work, (Chehov and Ibsen and Tennessee Williams were my favourite playwrights when I was young), and have been in a lot of television (in particular for Granada Television), I have this nightmare of being remembered most for my performance as Zena the barmaid in one of the films I have been in,  Dracula Has Risen From the Grave about which people still write letters to me today, forty years later

Oh, come on, Ms Ewing! There are many actors and actresses who would love to be remembered for anything 40 years later!

But what intrigues me is that she is now a successful novelist. Her novels are all still in print, have been translated into various languages, and she was once nominated for the Orange Prize.

It seems also that she is a Kiwi, and at least one of her novels has a historic NZ setting. (Caro? Castorboy?)

In the meantime ... Sorry Ms Ewing, but I thought you were just great in Dracula Has Risen From the Grave!
Caro

I don't think I've read any of them, but I see our library has 6 of them listed.  Her earlier books seemed to be talked about more than I have noticed her later ones have.  But maybe I just haven't been reading reviews so much.  I think they are quite well thought of.
Castorboy

Exactly my sentiments, Caro. I am sure she has a following in NZ - it's just that she doesn't receive much publicity in the media.
