Mike's challenge is far beyond me, so here's something for those equally lacking. The limerick below relates to an author. Who?

There was a young fellow from Jiangxi
Whose novels were frightfully fancy
But gloomy and dark
With sketches of snark
While he might even have been able to make the last line rhyme and scan

Usual rules, whoever gets it right gets the next go.

A writer of dark fantasy born in China ... Mervyn Peake comes to mind here!

Very good, Himadri. Peake, bearing in mind that he also illustrated The Hunting of the Snark and wrote poetry. Your go.

Two limericks for the price of one:

Convicted and sent to Siberia,
(I ask you! – can life get much drearier?)
Admired by Freud,
But still, he annoyed
Nabokov, who thought him inferior.

His novels are pretty good thrillers,
Invariably featuring killers,
But though it sounds odd,
They’re all about God –
The fun bits are no more than fillers.

Which writer am I describing here?

There once was a man of Tyrone,
Under several names he was known.
His tall tales of Finn
Came with rodents stitched in;
Hempen drawers that with hedgehogs were sewn.

I know who that is, but am not going to say, because I don't want a turn myself!  But I'm sure someone else will get it.
