Visit the new Rebel Board here: http://rebelboard.myfastforum.org

It's the ideal place to hang out and have a chat about anything from books (if you don't get enough of that here) to who should be playing in the holding role for Boston United this season. They're less strict over there.

Where did the rebel board originally come from, is it a incarnation from the old Beeb board or something separate?

Doh! I've just noticed the big heading over there mentioning the Beeb Big Read board!

It seems pretty cool though!

Dai's the authority on this matter, but I believe that when the BBC's Big Read project was going on and this board was in its first incarnation, the MSN Big Read board was started up as a place where people could censor themselves rather than being censored by others, and, moreover, where more off-topic discussion was possible. I joined fairly early on, in late 2003, but I wasn't there at the time the board was created.

I noticed on our old MSN board there was a link to the rebel board, I went over and had a look and joined but then after that I had problems getting into it - like I did with the Big Readers MSN board all I kept getting was the dreaded white screen or error messages so in the end I just stopped bothering.

Speaking of the old Beeb board is it still there does anyone know?  They did say they were going to keep it although you couldn't post on it.  I joined that pretty close to its demise, only about a year before it was shut down, but I don't know I have happy memories of that board, it was better than the MSN board - I just hated MSN (no offence and I'm really glad Evie moved so quickly and found us a new home there) but this board really tops them both.

Apple, I agree - the Beeb board was great, lots of happy times there.  It hasn't been the same since.  I am very glad we are all still together, of course, but I do still miss the old Beeb board very much.

Yes, it's still there (or at least it was not too long ago). I still browse through the discussions occasionally and remember all those halcyon days...

I wonder if we should provide a link to the Rebel Board (now that they have found a new home) on this incarnation?

A friendly enquiry Chib. In what way is this Board strict?

If I may, I think that what Chibiabos meant was that on the Rebel Board it's not strictly books that are discussed it's everything else as well.  This Board is strictly books and reading related matters only.

Luna - that's the purpose of this thread - Chibiabos put a link in his opening post.
