Yesterday’s ‘Great Lives’ on BBC Radio 4 celebrated the life of Arnold Bennett whose rather neglected books I’ve been enthusing about and recommending on here.  Deborah Moggach was enthusiastic about his masterpiece ‘The Old Wives’ Tale’ which is wonderful. I read TOWT years ago. I’ve read the Clayhanger trilogy (Clayhanger, Hilda Lessways, These Twain), ‘The Card’ and ‘Riceyman Steps’.  He was very prolific and his complete works including many short stories can be downloaded for peanuts onto your kindle. Please read him.
